Adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a rare but very aggressive form of cancer. Every year 0.5-2 per 1 million humans are diagnosed with the condition. Mean survival is only 18 months and 5-year survival 16-38%, depending on time of diagnosis. Surgery is the first line of treatment, but for patients whose tumors cannot be surgically removed there is only one medicine prescribed specifically against ACC (Mitotan/Lysodren). This medication has severe limitations in efficacy and serious side-effects.

In 2011, OncoTargeting CA AB was founded to develop a more effective and safe medical treatment for patients suffering from ACC, as well as other indications in Oncology that could benefit from the platform technology of tissue specific small-molecular treatment.
